I am Jim Buckingham, Public Property Commissioner for the past 16 years. I have also served for 4 years as Street Commissioner. I take great pride in the job and attempt to be as available as possible for our community. I believe communication is absolutely key to successfully doing my position to the best of my ability. I am easily reached either through city hall or my home phone 815-795-2677 or email bucky@mtco.com.
The position is always changing and evolving so keeping up with tasks at hand is key. Many improvements have been made to our community since I have been in office. We have upgraded our wastewater treatment plant and made upgrades to the retaining
wall to prevent flooding, new equipment has been purchased and updates have been made to buildings and properties plus so many other things to keep our community moving forward. Annexation of property to I80 is finally in the works with the water and sewer project underway.
I am a lifelong resident of Marseilles. I have been married to my wife Katie Engel Buckingham for 36 years this April. We have 2 children; our daughter is an ER nurse, and our son is a K-9 officer. We have 5 grandchildren with one due very soon. We believe this is the perfect
community to raise a family.
My hobby has evolved and grown over the past 20 years. I collect Marseilles Memorabilia which I now display in a case at city hall
changing out different items every couple of months as well as posting picture online. So many people have donated many items and stories over the years. Stop into city hall to see what is on display.
I have been employed at Illinois Valley Cellular for 20 years full time as their building and grounds director. It has been with great pride that I have been blessed with the responsibility of maintaining the
Middle East Conflicts Memorial Wall Museum located inside Illinois Valley Cellular, it has been such an honor.
Please know I am here for any question, concerns or suggestion you may have. Together this council and the citizens and businesses can do amazing things. I cannot promise anything but, I will do the very best
I can to keep our community moving forward.
