I’m Gary Lewey your Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for the City of Marseilles. I’m married to Betsy Devore Lewey we’ve been together for over 47 years and have 8 children between us. I retired from the Streets,Water and Sanitation department in 1999. I decided to run for office in the 2003 election and won the election as your Police Commissioner. I’ve enjoyed being a team member very much. At the end of this term it will be 12 years. The involvement I have shared as a team member and Council Member for Marseilles is to help keep your city safe and as we strive to keep the town cleaned up of litter and abandoned vehicles and homes.
I take pride in being a part of bringing new development to our community such as the factory’s on East Broadway, the ATV park east of town and the Middle East Conflict Wall Memorial located East at the Illinois Valley Cellular business complex. We are always seeking grants for improvement of our infrastructure and are moving forward. We as Council members have received grants to get water and sewer to Interstate 80 and have businesses interested into coming to Marseilles. This by the way is a goal I’ve had since I worked for the City and as you can see that’s been a good many years. My goals are to provide you with the best service to my ability in keeping everyone safe and healthy, to strive to bring new businesses to our community and keep our taxes as low as possible. Thank you very much from your Commissioner Gary Lewey.
