Waiting as long as we could, with hopes conditions would change, decisions were made at a special city council meeting concerning summer activities. Many factors went into these decisions. They were not quick decisions.
We regret to inform you that the Marseilles Public Pool will not be opening this season. We’ll be taking advantage of this time to complete pool repairs and projects that had been planned for a later date. Marseilles Fun Days, a 7-day celebration in July, has also been cancelled. The fireworks display, that is traditionally a part of the Marseilles Fun Days celebration, has also been cancelled. It was originally thought that the display could be held safely with people viewing the fireworks from their homes and cars. As the City and Marseilles Fun Days Committee received more information, we joined our neighboring towns in making the hard decision to cancel the fireworks.
We realize this is a huge disappointment to everyone, including us. We don’t have any clever words to erase the disappointment. All we can say is that these events and spending summer days at the pool will return.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We also want to remind everyone to continue to comply with the current phase guidelines and to be respectful of others.
Thank you,
Mayor Hollenbeck
